Now that the importance of having current and applicable voicemail greetings has been established, the big question of how remains, right? How does one create this stellar voicemail selection and improve their business voicemail greeting?

Link to an existing menu provides the way to associate the menu with an existing menu. Linked menus are mirror images and menu changes reflect in both places. This type of menu is created with the same greeting as the source menu. The difference from the pre-populated is that the modifications made to any of the linked menus will update both menus.
The extension user will receive a warning tone, which indicates that a caller has been answered by their voice mailbox. The user has the option to monitor the call, or ignore the alert, and allow the caller to leave a message. Once the user has selected to monitor the caller, they have the option to leave the caller undisturbed (leaving a message) or to retrieve the caller from the voice mailbox and be connected to the caller for a live conversation. Each menu has a list of customizable options that can transfer callers further either to another account object (e.g. user's voicemail, hunt group, dial by name directory, etc.) or to a sub-menu. To configure it navigate to HostPilot > Services > Unite > Auto Attendant > Auto Attendant Name > Business Hours > Business hours Menu in question > Not set up button next to the option you wish to manage. Click on a number key and choose an option for it. Repeat this for each key you want to use as an option in the Business hours. There are several actions that can be set up for a button: Make sure you are on the Business Hours tab and navigate to the menu tree number to enable/disable the Dial By Extension. Choose the routing: Route to User: when selected, a drop-down is displayed to the right that lists all users who have an extension/phone number assigned. Select user to redirect the call to when a caller presses the corresponding key. Note: this option is not available if you do not have any users with extensions. Dial By Name Directory: enables the options of Dial by name. After the Dial By Name Directory is enabled, make sure your greeting gives the caller instructions for which number to press to get to the Dial By Name option. When the callers press the assigned Dial by Name option, they will hear the following recording:

Your greeting is very important as it can be the first contact people have with you or your company. Voice mail is only impersonal if you make it that way. One way to help increase the effectiveness of voice mail is to change your greeting at least weekly if not daily.

Hello, you have reached the law offices of X. Unfortunately, I am attending to another client right now, but I will return your call as soon as I can. Please leave me your name, reason for calling, and your number so I can connect you with the right department. This is far more professional than the other examples given in this guide. Lawyers should always be formal, smooth, and confident. Nobody is calling to make friends. They’re calling to get the job done. That’s why your message should be all business.

I’m currently away from my desk, but please leave a message with your name, number, and reason for calling so I can get back to you in a timely manner. It’s inevitable; a caller will go to voicemail eventually. When it happens, be sure to remind the caller what extension they are leaving the message at, and any pertinent information you’d like them to provide. In some cases, such as department voicemails, you might want an option for the caller to back-out and try a different extension.
This is the message that your customers hear when they call during business hours. Greetings often have a short welcome message and list the menu options.
20. Howdy, you’ve reached [your name]’s phone. I’m busy making deals or rock mountain climbing [replace with your personal hobbies], so toddle away your contact data and a short message so I will name you aid after I receive a free second.
The above eight rules of engagement for voicemail greetings may sound easy enough, but they’ll require some practice to get just right. Let’s look at some examples to provide some context in how to apply the rules to various types of greetings and situations.
