In the New Sound Event popup, set a name for your sound (eg. AH Prompt), then in Sound, you can either select an existing audio file on your PBX, choose a file from your computer (New Sound (Upload)), or use your phone handset to record a sound file (New Sound (Record)). For this example, we would record a message along the lines of "You have reached our after-hours support line. Please wait while we connect you to an on call support agent".

You can set when you would like to send callers to your voicemail. For example, you may want to send all calls to voicemail when you know you’re going to be out of the office and not taking phone calls. 1
Context does matter here. If the caller would reasonably expect you to answer the phone (such as if they were calling a store or other place of business), an apology for not being able to get to the phone makes the most sense.
If you only check and return messages once a day or once a week, let your caller know. This will avoid multiple messages by the same caller.
"Hello, you've reached [name] at [company]. I'm unable to come to the phone right now. Leave your name and number, and I'll return your call as soon as I'm free. Thank you."
