We’ve all been there…You call a company’s customer support line, only to be met with a confusing and deadpan auto attendant message that doesn’t have the selection you’re looking for. What’s worse, you press 0 and it doesn’t take you to an operator, but repeats the main message again!
You don’t have to spell out every single thing that you think they might want to know. Have some faith that your callers will be able to figure things out on their own. Be natural but informative.
To improve a a business voicemail greeting, keep these eight rules at the forefront of the creative process: Avoid turning customers off with overused and impersonal phrases like “your call is very important to us..." Avoid leaving customers unsure by not immediately telling them the business, department, and/or person they’ve reached. Avoid leaving customers confused with too many details and complications; just keep it simple. Avoid messages longer than 25 seconds. Do apologize for being unavailable at the moment.
