Of course you’ll wait. You don’t have a choice. While you are waiting, take the opportunity to wrap your phone in strips of masking tape to give it the look of Eddie Van Halen’s famous “Frankenstrat” guitar.
Length – if your callers typically wait 2 minutes at a time, then at least 2 minutes of programming should be the goal. The idea is to ensure the callers don’t hear repeated messages every time they call. A typical on-hold message is 4-8 minutes in length.
Diabetes kills more Americans each year than breast cancer and AIDS combined. As the number one diabetes advocate in America, the American Diabetes Association needed an easier way to update their 5 main call centers across the United States. Our Internet-connected On-Hold system allows easy management and update of the important American Diabetes Association messages. Finally, take into account the reduction in quality that goes hand in hand with hold music. The audio quality is—at best—24 times worse than that from a CD. Yes, we just said CD. The public telephone network wasn’t built with HD music in mind. Thankfully for OnSIP customers, we provide HD radio for VoIP music on hold. That said, your company might have top of the line audio quality, but if clients call in from an old landline or cell, they might hear some distortion.
4. SET A BUSINESS TONE BEFORE THE CALL CONNECTS. A set of on-hold messages & music helps to establish a tone for your business before the caller ever connects with an employee.
So how do you choose the right hold music? Start with what’s appropriate for your business. A funeral home wouldn’t blast the Bee Gees. A sports arena isn’t going to stream some easy listening to the fans. Know your audience, understand their mind space, and pick your music accordingly.

The music in our on hold music section is pre-licensed, which means we can mix it with your on-hold messages without charging an additional music license. Also, this smaller selection of music is not in a PRO such as ASCAP, BMI, PRS etc. so you won't have to pay these agencies a fee for playing music on hold. You can use music from our library if you wish but there will be an additional license cost and not all of it is PRO free.

It's a panoptic experience, being on hold while listening to someone singing about being on hold. Depending how long it takes for someone else to join the call, you could be listening for awhile. The music builds as time goes on, culminating in a spoken verse that begins: "Well, let me tell you all a story / about a man who was on hold all day..." This unusually self-aware song is the default music for a conference call service called UberConference, where "I'm On Hold" plays on a loop for anyone who calls in early, on almost every call that doesn't start exactly when it's scheduled to (or doesn't ever start at all). It's selected by nine out of ten call organizers, and plays over a million times per month, says Craig Walker, CEO of Dialpad, owner of UberConference.
