5.0 out of 5 stars much cheaper option than professional on-hold service I used to use a professional on-hold service which would charge me about $500 every time I wanted to change my on hold message. This product works exactly as it states. I did not use the software that came with it, but with a few online searches it was easy to figure out how to convert a voice memo on my iphone to a compatible file, and background music is easy to find online too. So I read from a script I wrote with background music playing and made a voice memo on my iphone, converted it to the appropriate music file with free online software, and dragged and dropped the file into the usb drive they provided. Very low tech but the end result is excellent and I can change it up as often as I want. Very pleased with the purchase. I have an older phone system that came with my business when I started renting. There was a male adapter plug that was plugged into a CD player, but if the CD player was not running, I got no sound for "on hold". Sometimes I would remember to turn on the CD and put it on repeat, but...somethimes it would be turned off for months (the system is in an enclosed stairwell that is hard to get to).
On-hold music is considered standard in business phone systems today because people actually perceived wait times as shorter when they hear it. On-hold music traditionally worked by having specialized equipment attached to the phone, and the jack might plug into the radio, then tapes, then CDs, then MP3 players. PRI boards are built with jacks to play on-hold music.

Business Intro – quick intro announcement heard by the caller before they speak with a business representative. Usually quite short and welcoming, introducing the business to the caller.
A custom on hold message, mixed with on hold music ensures that callers know they are being kept on hold. This is important so customers do not feel abandoned or that they have possibly been disconnected. If there are no on hold messages or music at the end of the line, many callers will not wait long before hanging up. If you can provide them with some useful information, on hold phone messages can keep your callers online for considerably longer, allow time for your operators to answer and reduce the stress of callers.
On hold messages can be recorded for many purposes, such as promoting your business, answering FAQs or announcing important customer service information. It's important to be clear in the message you are trying to get across. Confusion leads to disengagement and reflects badly on the brand. Determining your callers' wait times is necessary to determine the required length of the on-hold message. Making the recording too short can lead to the message being played too many times. This can be repetitive and lose the caller's attention while they hold.

Upgrading to Custom On Hold Messages is like employing a sales/PR person that talks to every caller you place On Hold. Most businesses aim to answer the telephone within 3 rings but we know that isn't always possible. The research showed that a typical business using on hold marketing had 100 calls a day with an average hold time of 30 seconds for 57% of callers. This translates to half an hour a day, every day, of messaging to on-hold customers. That's 3+ weeks a year!
