Different types of music elicit different reactions in the human brain. Make sure you pick the right one for your business.
With music and messaging that appeals to your target market, you will captivate your audience. Your Message On Hold program can be more than a time filler for callers waiting, it can be an informative, entertaining, and educational tool. With the right content, callers will not only stay on hold, but will have an emotional reaction to your message.

Knowing which headset will work with which telephone system can be a minefield but these people are always keen to advise.
You have your callers’ complete attention at what is virtually point of sale. Many of your waiting callers have their pens poised, their order books open, they want to know how you can help them, SO LET’S TELL THEM.
This is perhaps the most encouraging song in the list. Hold on, your Customer Service Representative is coming. Probably.
Promote your business to the callers while they're on hold. Inform them of your range of products and services, their benefits and how they can help them. Or just re-enforce your branding with some pleasant background music.
On hold messages and ads are growing in popularity, but there are still plenty of businesses in Australia that don’t realise that their phone is a marketing tool. Think about it – having professional and marketing-driven on hold messages is like having a really great salesperson on the phone with your customers every time they call.
Really helpful in assisting to select the right products for our needs. Definitely more concerned with offering expertise than just making a sale. Great service!
Where this creates an extra snag with music on hold is that the loudest part of a song doesn’t typically come in until the final chorus or reprise. This means that if you just listen to the first 10 seconds to check that your new hold music is working, then chances are you’ll be blissfully unaware that three minutes into holding (just as customers are beginning to feel irritated anyway), you start playing a sound like fingernails on a blackboard to them.
The decision to update your on-hold message depends largely on the content you are sharing. If you are sharing content that includes short-term promotions, this information will need frequent updating so consumers are always aware of the status of any offers. However, if you’re only sharing general information about your standard products, your operating hours and location, then the decision to update the message can be more reliant on metrics.

The word “Ringback” is perhaps unfairly associated with a niche market of cell phone users. A ringback tone is a signaling tone that the caller hears while the phone is ringing. In America, the tradition has been to have a two second tone with a four second pause, mirroring the two second ring and four second pauses on the other end.
Call hold/call wait is a network feature (while it is activated by the handset) as such any music would be supplied by your carrier, there should be some there but chances are it's some wonderfull elevator style stuff (I'm partial to Brahms myself 😉 ). It's the only song Alex Cornell has ever written. Cornell was one of the co-founders of UberConference, and in addition to being a designer, is a singer and guitar player who had always found songwriting frustrating. "Then I just came to it one day," he says. "I just wanted to write a pleasant melody designed to be heard over the phone." With encouragement from Walker, Cornell started messing around with the lyrics. He wrote and recorded it in one night, in 2012, as a voice note on his phone — and thus, this self-aware hold song was born, and lives on, seven years later.
