A typical Message on Hold program is 4 minutes long. Because a voice over talent typically reads between 100 and 112 words per minute, the script for a four-minute program can be up to 400 words, allowing for four to six paragraphs or messages, interspersed by brief intervals of music. Longer audio storage and program lengths are available if necessary.
When your customers are on hold, they’re essentially a captive audience. They’re already waiting to speak with you, so why not take advantage of that downtime and create a sales pitch that sells more of your goods and services while they wait?

So what can we do to avoid inflicting further musical misery on our own customers while they’re patiently sitting on hold? We could just go back to playing a ringing sound, or an intermittent beep just to let people know they’re still connected, but that would be awfully dull. The best compromise is relatively simple electronic music that doesn't have too much going on as the ideal choice for hold music as it requires far less refined sound quality to get a decent rendition down a telephone connection.
The default LinkedPhone configuration will simply route calls to you and your users when customers call your business phone number. It’s easy to set up business hours, a welcome greeting, and voicemail greetings with a basic configuration.
Physical media MOH methods provide quality control with prerecorded and licensed CDs, although some units still use cassettes. CDs are designed with or without voice-overs. Brief voice-overs, such as "Calls will be answered in the order that they were received", or "Please hold, your call is important to us," are basic examples. However, many vendors suggest more customized messages.
A phone line isn’t a state of the art speaker system; its primary function is to make sure the call is connected. Volume changes, frequency, and distortion are all elements to consider when choosing hold music.
