Prompt, efficient turn around time, and always delivered when they said they would. Very accommodating of the changes we wanted, and great customer service. Thanks Sian!
I agree with you. The music phone service provider use is never the best! Like you, when I switch to my calendar on iPhone and ask my caller to wait while I do that, it would be great to have one of my iPod tracks play to him until I pressed the green bar again to return to the call. Surely one could set that up independently of the phone service provider: just a matter of substituting my music choice for my voice until I clicked back off hold?? As an example of what that actually means, let’s listen to the popular hold music staple that is Pachelbel’s Canon in D. At CD quality it sounds soothing. As hold music it starts to grate very, very quickly.
Of course you’ll wait. You don’t have a choice. While you are waiting, take the opportunity to wrap your phone in strips of masking tape to give it the look of Eddie Van Halen’s famous “Frankenstrat” guitar.
Set the right tone for the call by introducing your business in a welcoming manner. The message can be played either by itself or as an intro to IVR prompts.

Messaging on hold is an excellent tool for keeping callers and clients updated with company news and goings-on. Recordings can be used to update customers on changes to opening hours and scheduling, service delivery information, daily events and much more.
On-hold messaging is also great time to encourage consumers to spend. For example, you can offer customers who spend more than $99 free shipping, customers who order 3 items a 4th item free, etc. Think “upsell” with your ads on hold – you’ve got the customer on the line patiently waiting to (hopefully) spend money.
So how do you choose the right hold music? Start with what’s appropriate for your business. A funeral home wouldn’t blast the Bee Gees. A sports arena isn’t going to stream some easy listening to the fans. Know your audience, understand their mind space, and pick your music accordingly.
For a more modern example of a bad choice of hold music, let’s take an example I have to endure on a regular basis, Month of Sundays by Passenger. At CD quality it’s got lots of interesting stuff going on, which you’d imagine might be ideal to distract someone from the fact they’re being kept on hold for ages. However, playing it over the phone it’s simply too busy. As soon as the brass and backing vocals kick in it just sounds yuck.
