“Good afternoon. You have reached the office of [your name]. I will be out of the office beginning on [date] and will be returning on [date]. Please leave a brief message with your contact information, and I’ll be sure to get back to you as soon as I return on [date]. If this is an emergency or you need to speak with someone before I return, please contact [name of colleague/supervisor], [their job title], at [their phone number].”
After leaving four or five messages without receiving a response, you should stop calling – at least for now. Don't expect the courtesy of a call back from a hiring authority. Unless they have a need for someone like you, it is not likely that they will call you back. Don't take it personally. Instead, lead with, "Next time we talk, I want to share two goals on our new product roadmap that speak directly to several pain points you've raised. I'll tell you more in our next meeting. How about next Tuesday?"
