Make the last thing you say be your phone number. This ensures it's clearly visible on voicemail dictation, and makes it easy for prospects to call back. Avoid phrases like "Call me back when you get this," which can sound pushy. And, finally, tell them you'll follow up with an email. This gives the prospect two ways to return your call, which certainly can't hurt.

A compelling sales voicemail won't be particularly effective if your prospect has no idea how they should respond. You can't just rattle off what they stand to gain from leveraging your product or service and then hang up. Always offer some next steps or insight on what they should expect next — like another phone call or a follow-up email.

See how this voicemail is straightforward, clear and concise? This might be a good script to start with if you’re new to making calls to leads. Always talk in a friendly voice and come from a place of caring (they’ll feel it on the other end of the line). After you’ve used the script for awhile, you’ll learn how leads are reacting to the voicemail and you can rescript it if necessary. Keep in mind, you will be calling the lead MANY times so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to try different scripts.
