Professional development educator Dr. Ray Lauk sent us this great piece of advice, which he credits to veteran sales trainer Stan Piskorski:

No matter what, speak positively about yourself and the services you provide. The first mortgage call is just as important as ever. To remain relevant, mortgage originators must provide value. So, that first voicemail is your golden opportunity to do so!
The body is the meat and potatoes of your voicemail. This is the section where you leave details about why you are calling and what you hope to achieve from this voicemail, which is usually a call back.
Hello Joan, this is Susan with XYZ Company. I’m calling to get price quotes on your shipping rate. I’d appreciate it if you could call me back at 333-333-3333. Anytime during the work week would be great. Thank you.
Yes. You can turn voicemail On or OFF and adjust the amount of time before voicemail picks up.
Continue to follow the instructions to complete setting up your voicemail greeting.
If you are seeing a message on the screen of your cordless handsets that you have a new “Voice mail”, then that should mean that you DO still have the AT Voice Mail system answering your calls and storing the messages there and not on your phone. Access your voicemail box on your phone by dialing *86 and entering your password. Follow the steps to listen to the messages in your voicemail box. When listening to the first message, press 7 to delete all messages. Press 7 again to delete all messages. Press 1 to confirm. Why does my landline say my mailbox is full?
To leave the perfect voicemail message, start by identifying yourself so the recipient knows who you are right off the bat. Then, if the person doesn't already know, mention how you got …
Hi Mary! First of all, I’m so sorry to hear that. What a horrible thing to have happen! It really depends on the manufacturer. There are high quality picture frames and small, less expensive ones that probably don’t have a lot of memory or ways to protect what’s been recorded. I would start with the manufacturer to see if they have any ideas. If they can’t help, try one of the recording suggestions we made in the post to see if they might be able to help. Even some Walgreens and Walmart have recording services, that preserve recordings, so they might also be able to help.
Note: There is never a reason to give your sales pitch on voice mail. No one is there to say yes. Your objective is to make contact. Your objective is to provide enough information to create positive response.
The tone of your voice when leaving sales voicemails is almost as important as the actual words you say. If you obviously sound like a salesman, your message will be deleted before it even ends. You want to speak in a tone of voice thats friendly, confident, and casual—not overly excited, nervous, or desperate-sounding.
These guys do it all. They have a voice-over service (including writing the greeting script) and transfer the greeting to your phone in super high quality. “Congratulations! You’ve reached the right person! It’s [your name]. Unfortunately, you’ve called at the wrong time. Please leave a message with all your contact information, and I’ll call you back within 24 hours.”
I assume it’s safe to say you’ve gotten really busy or this isn’t a top priority for you at the moment so I’ll take you off of my call list as to no longer interrupt your day.
Remember, your prospects (and you too, if you're honest) care mainly about themselves. In other words, your sales voicemails will be much more successful if the benefit to the prospect is clearly stated.
You can also erase any of your existing recordings associated with your voicemail box. To delete your name recording, unavailable greeting, or temporary greeting: Dial *98 on your OnSIP-registered phone. Enter your voicemail box number. Enter the PIN/password for your voicemail box. Press 0 for voicemail box options. Press 1 for unavailable greeting, 2 for your name, or 3 for temporary greeting. Press 2 to delete the existing recording on file.
