So, is there an opportunity for your clients, referral partners, and prospects to reach you via voicemail? Or is your voicemail box always full?
When do you leave a voicemail? This is largely dependent on your call sequence and cadence. It is recommended that you make several call attempts in order to engage the prospect on a “live call.” After you have done this and your attempts have not been fruitful, then you leave a voicemail.

If you're going to call a prospect, you have to leave a message. Regardless of whether the prospect was actively screening calls or simply away from their desk when the phone rang, your number will pop up as a missed call. And if there's no accompanying voicemail? Well, it must not have been terribly important.
Be polite and considerate. Give the person 10 seconds to compose themselves and prepare a concise message. Not only is this good manners across a MUCH larger portion of the world than the U.S., but it is also just common sense.
Hook your external Microphone into your computer, just follow the color patterns when plugging in the device.
If you’re too mysterious with information, suspicions will be raised. If you leave a mini-sales pitch that’s all about you, the prospect will most likely make the decision not to return your call.
Get your messages by phone or by email anytime, anywhere. With voicemail you can: Have your messages sent to your email inbox. Check your messages using a Touch-Tone phone. Get notified when you have a new message.
In sales, immediate communication with your prospects and current customers is important. Being available to answer questions or further negotiate a deal allows your clients to feel secure and more apt to purchase from you. But what if you can’t answer the phone when they call? Make sure you have a voicemail system set up so your clients have the opportunity to leave you a message.
If you already have a call scheduled, it will serve as an incentive for your prospect to show up. If you don't have a call on the books, use their response to this voicemail to ask for a follow-up meeting.
It might be a straightforward approach, but it's not effective in the slightest. As soon as the prospect realizes this voicemail is a sales pitch from a salesperson, it's getting deleted. And if you lead with your name and company, the prospect's finger hits the delete key almost immediately.
To set up your voicemail, press #55 or *68 from your home phone or call the retrieval number you received with your welcome letter. Voice prompts will guide you through the rest of the steps.
This point is more or less an extension of the point above. If you want to avoid sounding awkward and long-winded, you need to know what you're going to say — every good sales voicemail is conducted with confidence and definitive intention. The key to delivering on both is having well-prepared, personalized voicemail messaging at your disposal.
Voicemail connect rates usually go up as the day advances, so you should schedule your phone activity toward the end of the day.
