Three days later, start your voicemail (or live call if you reach the person) with, 'As promised, I am calling again to share...' Whether it’s your last encounter or a recent e-book download, have a relevant reason for calling in order to get the prospect’s attention.
First I would check the phone to see if it saved the greeting to its files. Some phones do and some don’t. If you are unable to find the voicemail greeting file, google the question for your type of phone. If you’re unable to find it or do it, call youe cell phone carrier to see if they can help. Some carriers still save voicemail greetings on their systems. It’s a great reminder though that if you have a greeting you really want to keep, to make sure you record it and save it to your computer and to a flash drive or cloud drive for good measure. Resist the temptation of calling people or leaving voicemails when you are too tipsy! The same applies when you are too angry or upset to speak without using hostile language or an accusatory tone. Prepare and leave your voicemails when you are in the right mindset so that you don’t need to search for ways to delete your message or re-record it!
Recording the message yourself doesn’t mean it can’t be done professionally. You can still get studio time with an experienced audio engineer. Studio time can cost $60-$100 per hour, which may or may not come with an engineer. If you need to hire one, their rates are usually $100-$300 an hour. Mind you, their feedback, professional experience, and editing capabilities are typically well worth the extra expense.
Your own answering greeting should be short. Don't bother to say that you aren't available to take the call. That's a waste of time, and there's no point in restating the obvious. Instead, simply identify yourself and ask the caller to leave a message.
But the key to success here is knowing what to say on the second and third voicemail/email attempts BEFORE picking up the phone.
If you can, try to mention a tangible benefit the prospect can gain by working with you. Whether you quickly state understanding of a challenge they are facing (that you learned of during the research phase) or can share a brief statistic related to an area of interest for them.
