How many of your competitors are doing the same? Not many, I’m willing to bet (but more are starting to!)
While you’re updating your voicemail greeting, make sure you let callers know when they can expect to receive a call back from you or from someone else from your company. Most professionals opt for a 24-hour callback window. Clearly state this in your voicemail greeting to set expectations with your callers.

Here are some tips for leaving courteous and business-like voicemails that will get returned. Think it through first. Introduce yourself. Speak slowly. Speak clearly. Mention your availability. Never use voicemail as a way to avoid speaking with someone. It doesn't help, and a person would have to be terminally dense not to figure out your game. If you must call when you know the other person isn't available, say, "I know you won't be able to take the call now, but I wanted to let you know that..."
Your own answering greeting should be short. Don't bother to say that you aren't available to take the call. That's a waste of time, and there's no point in restating the obvious. Instead, simply identify yourself and ask the caller to leave a message.
While both types of messages should be customized to a given buyer, voicemails should be ultra-specific. In an email, I might ask for a referral, an appointment, or feedback on a content asset they downloaded. These sorts of classic questions -- while still tailored to the buyer -- can be customized for reuse with another prospect, or another 100 prospects.

Use call answering rules to determine what happens when a caller reaches your voice mail. For example, if you have automatic replies turned on, then you could set up your rule to transfer the caller to a different number. If you have multiple rules, you can specify the order in which they are applied.
