End your voicemail by asking your prospect to tell you more, whether about their recent vacation to Thailand or their unique business pain points. It's a simple request -- and easier than, say, "Give me a call back, I'd love to find out when we can write up our contract."
If you have the person's email address, follow up with an email. Depending on the person’s schedule, it may be easier to correspond (or schedule a time to talk) via email. If you are going to go this route, say in your voicemail that you will be sending over an email shortly.

You need the caller to feel like they’re responsible for taking the next step. “Call me back” is too generic (and can come off as a little desperate, too, which is a turn-off), and saying you’ll follow-up with them completely removes any responsibility on their part.
As for deciding whether to use your voice or your keyboard when communicating with a client, ask yourself, who am I contacting? What am I contacting the individual for? How fast am I looking for a response? Then decide whether to call or write. The choice is yours, but keep in mind the pros and cons of each. People hate voicemail. Leaving messages, receiving them… With so many other ways to communicate, most of which don’t require you to actually use your voice, voicemail has become anxiety-producing. It’s even worse when you’re talking about a marketing or sales voicemail, too. The recipient usually thinks, “You’re just trying to get money out of me,” and they often hang up before listening to the entire message.
5.) If you’re calling a home line, and know the family, it’s nice to say a group “Hello” before leaving a message specifically for the person you called. Say something like this: “Hi everyone, it’s Maralee. Hope you’re enjoying Spring Break! Janet, I wanted to see if you and I could meet for lunch one day next week. My schedule is pretty open, and we could pick a restaurant near your office. I know your lunch schedules are tight. I’ll give you a call back at 7:00 tonight. Or I’m around all afternoon, so give me a call!” (Boy, home lines are becoming rare, aren’t they? We gave ours up a couple of months ago.)
Customer experience is today’s business battleground. At a time where it’s common for even the most established businesses to deliver poor service, incompetent support, and just outright bad communication, how do you stand out? As big companies fail in the customer experience department, doors open for small business owners and entrepreneurs to distinguish themselves.
After a prospect finishes listening to your email, they should be very clear on what the next step of the sales process is. Whether you ended the voicemail asking a question they are prompted to answer, left your contact information instructing them to call you back, or told them to look out for a follow-up email, the message recipient should know exactly what’s coming next, and how to behave accordingly if they are interested in the deal.

If you are calling from a phone other than your own desk phone, dial your own phone number and press the * key when you hear the voicemail greeting.

It's important to mention your follow-up plans in your sales voicemails. Sometimes just the knowledge that you'll call again is enough to entice a prospect to respond. Let them know that if you don't hear back from them, you'll follow up in a few days or next week.
