Those who know me know I can hold a conversation. I love people, and my desire to share with them carries over to leaving cell phone messages. Sadly, I know better than to leave long messages, and I have no excuse, but I tend to chatter on, and on, and on, enjoying a conversation with, essentially, myself.
After leaving four or five messages without receiving a response, you should stop calling – at least for now. Don't expect the courtesy of a call back from a hiring authority. Unless they have a need for someone like you, it is not likely that they will call you back. Don't take it personally. When you generate a lead from your website, mention how you obtained their information and reference any material they downloaded. Consider the following script when calling a lead who recently visited your website:
"Hello, you've reached [name] at [company]. I'm unable to come to the phone right now. Leave your name and number, and I'll return your call as soon as I'm free. Thank you."
If you're working with an actively engaged prospect, however, this voicemail can be perfect for building rapport. Say, "I just sent you an article about the new trends in AI we were discussing on our last call. I can't wait to hear what you think."
