By default beginning April 2017, voicemail transcription is available for all Phone System in Microsoft 365 users. When you receive a voicemail, the message will be transcribed in the body of the voicemail email you receive in your mailbox. If you do not want to have transcription for your messages, ask your admin to disable it for you.
Too many reps are the inside sales equivalent of chatty grandmas—pitching solutions, discussing features, and offering value propositions over a voicemail.

Before we tackle appropriate voicemail etiquette for outbound messages, let’s first discuss proper etiquette for setting up your own voicemail system. As a professional, make sure you are regularly updating your voicemail greeting with information most relevant to those calling you.
At the beginning of the show, I used an example of a voicemail greeting – I used the name Luke Skywalker. He is a character from the Star Wars movie for those of you who hadn’t heard of Luke Skywalker before.
Here are some proven techniques for how to leave a voicemail message that gives you the best chance of getting a call back:
Extended Away Message Example Script. Hi, you’ve reached [YOUR NAME]. I’m out of the office on extended leave until [DATE]. If you need assistance before I return, please contact my co-worker [NAME] at [PHONE NUMBER and EMAIL ADDRESS]. Otherwise, feel free to leave a message for me or call back after [DATE]. Thank you.
Note: If Greeting that lets callers know you'll be away for an extended period of time is selected, the call answering rules previously recorded are ignored and only the greeting recorded for this option is played.

What should I say on my voicemail? Your voicemail should state the purpose of your call, and should include a value statement as well as your contact information.

I'm currently [exploring Asia, hiking through the jungle in Costa Rica, hanging out on the beach in Bermuda] — or more likely, [recovering from extreme jet lag, googling ‘Are red spiders poisonous,' or looking for SPF 150 sunscreen] and won't be back in the office until [date]. Leave your contact info and reason for calling and I'll get in touch then."
In certain situations, it’s a good idea to let a call go to voicemail. If you’re in a loud area, unable to spend 10-15 minutes talking, or are otherwise distracted, don’t answer. Recruiters who cold-call candidates will understand that you’re simply unavailable – but make sure to return calls in a timely manner. If possible, call back during regular business hours.
Delivered: Messages that have been delivered but have not yet been listened to by the recipient.
Voicemail #2: "Jerry, I forgot to leave my name and number. This is Sarah Griffin from Acme Corp. You can reach me at 884-867-5309. Thanks."
Without the fake tone of excitement in your voice, the listener understands that the specific question you're posing is just as meaningful to you as it is to them. And the more the listener feels the message is meant for them and only them, the more likely it is they'll respond.
