I like to say my phone number very early so the person can hear it again quickly by starting the message over and does not have to listen to your entire message again to hear the number. But do repeat your telephone number at the end of the message at least once and speak very s-l-o-w-l-y so the person can write it down as they listen. If you don't get a response to your first voicemail, don't hesitate to record a similar message once a week for two or three weeks. So what's the point? Should salespeople even bother with voicemails? Absolutely, and here's why.
But every once in a while, you get a really special voicemail. Maybe your partner called you early in the morning, knowing you were asleep, to leave a Happy Birthday recording for when you awoke. Or maybe a beloved family member recently passed away, and you have a voicemail from them that might’ve seemed pretty pointless at the time but now carries extra significance.

If you're going to call a prospect, you have to leave a message. Regardless of whether the prospect was actively screening calls or simply away from their desk when the phone rang, your number will pop up as a missed call. And if there's no accompanying voicemail? Well, it must not have been terribly important.
Voicemail connect rates usually go up as the day advances, so you should schedule your phone activity toward the end of the day.
Obviously, prospects aren't going to listen to an overly long voicemail from a caller whose number they don't recognize, so pushing past 30 seconds ensures the message will get deleted almost immediately. On the other hand, buyers are also unlikely to listen to an overly short message.
