At the same time, if the prospect can’t hear or understand you, all of your work is wasted. Drink water, clear your throat, and invest in a good headset or phone. Be aware of your accent or the way you say words or numbers. And, avoid sales speak and buzzwords.
If you have the person's email address, follow up with an email. Depending on the person’s schedule, it may be easier to correspond (or schedule a time to talk) via email. If you are going to go this route, say in your voicemail that you will be sending over an email shortly.

Its imperative that you, your company, or both are doing something on a regular basis that labels you as a value-added industry resource to your targeted audience. This way you have a clear advantage over all the other sales calls he/she is receiving.
*Use the word “with” instead of “to.” It sounds more positive. You want to talk “with” the person, not give them a “talking to.” It’s a subtle difference, yet it keeps the message positive.
Greetings can be recorded by dialing the Voice Portal (pressing the message button on your IP phone) and entering the Voice Portal password. 7

1. "Hi, you've reached [your name] at [your company]. I'm unavailable right now — probably helping [type of company] get [X results, e.g. ‘ double their leads in 60 days,' ‘hire the best and brightest engineers,' ‘convert 40% more customers.']
The first two are voicemails for prospects you haven’t spoken with yet, the next one is for when you’re calling a prospect or client back, and the last example is for when your prospect or client isn’t calling you back at all:
When on vacation, provide your callers with a return date and a back-up contact person to accommodate emergencies. This prevents you from potentially damaging a valued relationship while you enjoy some time off.
A monotone voice can be a turn off for a caller. You want your caller to feel like they missed out on speaking with you — not like they dodged a bullet.
Perhaps the biggest mistake in a sales voicemail is pitching too aggressively. If you sound like a smarmy used car salesperson, your prospects are going to delete your voicemails faster than you can say "lowest price guaranteed!"
I assume it’s safe to say you’ve gotten really busy or this isn’t a top priority for you at the moment so I’ll take you off of my call list as to no longer interrupt your day.
“Hey, there! This is [your name]. Please leave me a message with your name, number, and the reason you’re calling. If you also tell me [insert random fact] I’ll be sure to move you to the top of my call list. Have a great day!”
The whole point of sales voicemails is to begin a conversation with prospects. If a prospect is unclear on how to reach you or can't decipher what you're saying, you can kiss that lead goodbye.
