I’ve called a few job seekers lately to help with their search and have gotten this message, “We’re sorry. The person you are trying to reach has not yet set up their voicemail system. Please try again later.” This makes you look a little lazy and can frustrate the hiring managers. As soon as you get a new phone, make sure you make it a priority to get your voicemail up and running. Definitely make sure you have it set up before you start sending out job applications. I understand this could slip your mind, but it’s important that you do everything you can to show the hiring manager that you are reliable and reachable.
Translation: If you sound unsure, then your current clients, prospects, and partners won’t be so sure about you either.

A sales voicemail can't do too much for you if there's no room for any sort of progression. If you just give an explanation of your offering's benefits without establishing what that prospect should do or can expect next, you might close the door on a sale — straight off the bat.
People hate voicemail. Leaving messages, receiving them… With so many other ways to communicate, most of which don’t require you to actually use your voice, voicemail has become anxiety-producing. It’s even worse when you’re talking about a marketing or sales voicemail, too. The recipient usually thinks, “You’re just trying to get money out of me,” and they often hang up before listening to the entire message.
