Depending on your connection to the person you are trying to reach, it is necessary to decide ahead of time what to say. So, avoid being the person that calls someone but then has no idea what they want to say. Especially if it goes to voicemail. Also, do not read off of a script. A simple outline can help you remember what to say, and it should flow naturally.
"Wherever we're talking to them, we're hearing the same things, which is: When it comes to voice mail, they're just over it," says Jane Buckingham, a trend analyst at Trendera.

If you really mean it, say you will return the call as soon as possible. For example, "This is Mary Mitchell. Please leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I can." If you want to give another option to reach you, go ahead, but limit it only to one telephone number or email address.
And when you send your email (I always recommend sending an email right after you leave a voicemail message) you can simply say:
A good voicemail should be more about the prospect than the salesperson. Especially when cold calling, you want to provide as much value as possible to incentivize your prospect to return your call.
As in the situation above, a full mailbox can be really frustrating for an employer who is trying to get in touch with you. Set aside time at least once a week to make sure you clean out your voicemail. You want to be as accessible as possible for potential employers. I’ve called a few job seekers lately to help with their search and have gotten this message, “We’re sorry. The person you are trying to reach has not yet set up their voicemail system. Please try again later.” This makes you look a little lazy and can frustrate the hiring managers. As soon as you get a new phone, make sure you make it a priority to get your voicemail up and running. Definitely make sure you have it set up before you start sending out job applications. I understand this could slip your mind, but it’s important that you do everything you can to show the hiring manager that you are reliable and reachable.
