When people listen to voicemails, they’re listening to more than just the words you say; tonality and inflection play a big role in how your message will be received.

Consider the following before making a call: Where the lead came from Time of day the lead was received Keep your message short (under 20 seconds) Avoid giving away too much information Add information that will pique their interest Speak with confidence/authority Keep tone and delivery casual and friendly Be clear and concise

We might also say, “…when I can’t get to my phone” which suggests that it’s not possible for you to check or answer your phone.
Salespeople are often coached to sound enthusiastic and excited on the phone, thus raising their natural voice pitch to a high, unnatural tone. In my opinion, this tone of voice makes it clear to the listener that not only is this an uncomfortable call, but a generic one.

Ok so let’s say you’ve made a few calls and have left several messages and you don’t want to leave another one… if that’s the case, at least hang up before the end of their “leave a message after the tone” instructions so that they don’t get notified of a voicemail just to hear you hanging upon them.
