I can’t come to the phone right now because I’m down in the basement printing up a fresh new batch of 20 dollar bills. If you need any money, or if you just want to check out my handi- work, please leave your name, number, and how much cash you need after the tone. If you’re from the Department of the Treasury, please ignore this message.
As I mentioned above, some words like ‘can’t’ are often mispronounced by non-native speakers and it can sound like a swear word!
.
After the tone, leave your name, number, and tell where you left the money. I’ll get back to you as soon as it’s safe for you to come out of hiding.
Instead of Luke Skywalker, use your own name, and ta-da you have your voicemail greeting.
*Use the word “with” instead of “to.” It sounds more positive. You want to talk “with” the person, not give them a “talking to.” It’s a subtle difference, yet it keeps the message positive.
On your Android device, open the Google Voice app .At the top left, tap Menu. Settings. In the Voicemail section, tap Voicemail greeting.Tap Record a greeting.Tap record .Record your greeting and then tap stop.Choose what you would like to do with the recording:
My number is [phone number]. I’ll also follow up with an email tomorrow. I look forward to hearing what you think. The key to making a script work is to practice. You can’t read it line-for-line, so it’s important to work out the kinks before you place your call, including: Your name Your reason for calling The benefit of calling you back Your contact information Your promise of a follow-up email
You will probably have to practice it a few times, until your voice is stronger, louder and clearer. That’s your homework now, in case you haven’t got a Voicemail greeting.
Be brief. Don’t make your listener resent you for leaving a 5 minute long message. People are busy. Listening to 5 minute phone messages is not on the top of their priorities and wastes their time. Many callers seem to think they are the only person in the world leaving a voicemail for a particular person. Yet a dozen other people feel the same way and a man ends up holding the phone to his ear for an hour.
Translation: If you sound unsure, then your current clients, prospects, and partners won’t be so sure about you either.
