1. Set up voicemail. To set your voicemail box using the phone connected to your AT&T Voicemail (such as your home number), follow these steps: Dial *98 or dial your Access Number.
A temporary greeting is something you record when you're in need of an interim message—like when you’re on vacation or out for the holidays. Dial *98 on your OnSIP-registered phone. Enter your voicemail box number. Enter the PIN/password for your voicemail box. Press 0 for voicemail box options. Press 3 to record your temporary message. 5. Hit “Record” on Audacity. Then, on your phone, play the voicemail you’d like to record. When your message is done, stop recording. If you want to get really fancy, you can use Audacity to chop off any dead air at the start or end of your recording.
This can also work with your iPhone or Android, if the above methods aren’t working for you. Just connect your phone into the computer with a 3.5mm audio cable. More on that in a minute.
Take a pen and paper and write down exactly what you will say. Then call them back. This way you will make sure you say what needs to be said, you will not forget to say your name at the end and also share your phone number.
Something along the lines of, "You have reached the answering service of . I am unfortunately unable to take your call at this time, however if you leave a message after the tone I will return your call as soon as I have an opportunity.". That's about a 12 second message if spoken in a slow and calm fashion. The message that this article advises is about 4 seconds.
