Let’s say you wanted to call someone and make an inquiry and that person doesn’t pick up their phone. To pick up the phone is to answer the phone. It’s a phrasal verb.
“Good morning. You’ve reached the voicemail of [your name]. Today is [date]. Please leave me a message with your name and contact information. Oh, and here’s my motivational quote of the day: [read quote].”
This is something that can be done, yes. But I can't think of a time when a salesperson would want to do it. What should I say on my voicemail? Your voicemail should state the purpose of your call, and should include a value statement as well as your contact information.
Nobody wants to play phone tag. Skip the back and forth by explicitly telling the caller to leave their name, number, and the best day(s) and time(s) to reach them. Your clients will appreciate you not wanting to waste their time.
