Additionally, this could even cause callers to question your character. Say, for example, the president of a company’s mobile phone voicemail greeting was funny. What’s to happen if the caller didn’t like or get the joke? What if they found it offensive? Another scenario is that a caller is reaching out to you for the first time—i.e. they have no idea regarding your personality. What next? The point is, with this type of greeting, humor is bound to be more divisive so just avoid it altogether. c. Poorly Pacing Your Message and Bad Time Management: Don’t speed through your message. Speak clearly so callers know what to include in their message and when to leave the message. At the same time, don’t drag your message out. No one wants to sit through a diatribe. Just get to the point clearly.

From time to time, the information provided in your voicemail greeting will update. Maybe your business hours or phone number will change. No matter what the change is, make sure that if the altered information appears in your voicemail greeting, that you update the recording as soon as possible. Don’t mislead customers through mistaken communication.
For example, you could say something like “I was going over your company’s numbers for last year and I saw something really interesting in the first quarter… I’d love to talk about it when you call.”
You should acknowledge that right off the bat by apologizing that they couldn't reach you directly.

The phrase should imply they will call you back — not that you desperately hope they’ll call you. And whatever phrase you choose to use, make sure it sounds like something you’d naturally say so you can deliver it with a confident tone.
When recording, be sure to say your message with a smile on your face. It’s obvious when people aren’t happy in their message. Since your work revolves around keeping happy customers, do your part by keeping a happy-sounding voicemail message. Don’t rush. It’s important to speak slowly and clearly when leaving your next voicemail greeting.
