Make sure that you set up your voicemail. To check, dial your own phone number from your iPhone and leave yourself a message. Call your iPhone from another phone and try to leave yourself a voicemail. Go to the keypad and press and hold on the 1, or press the Call Voicemail button. This dials voicemail. Check if you have any missed messages.
Professional — Lets them know who they’ve reached, why their call has not been answered and when they can expect a return call.Personable — Lets them know their message has been received by a real person who values their call and will reach back out to them. Note: If necessary, delete an existing greeting (limit of 2 greetings) to make room for the new greeting: Tap the Menu key, tap Delete greetings, tap the check box next to the desired greeting, and then tap Delete. Tap the Record icon to record your greeting. Tap the Stop recording icon to stop recording.
Keep it short and sweet so that the caller can quickly leave their message and move on with their day.

To record a new voicemail greeting, click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of your screen and select "Voice Settings.". Go to the "Voicemail & Text" tab to view your voicemail settings. Click "Record New," which may also say "Record New Message Using Phone.".
In a highly competitive graduate market even something like an unprofessional voicemail message could mean the difference between you getting selected for an internship opportunity or being rejected. There is no point in having an amazing interview and following up with a thank-you email to only let yourself down with an unprofessional sounding voicemail.

Don' let background noise do the talking for you. Ambient noise on your recording could be sending the wrong message to your clients. The sound of your kids arguing in the distance could be the sign of a distracting work environment. Clinking glasses and restaurant chatter may leave the impression that you don't take your work seriously. When you record your voicemail greeting choose a quiet spot free from interruption, so your message is the only thing callers hear. It's also good to avoid large, cavernous spaces where sound verberates.
