You message should convey the same courtesy to your callers as a person would who is speaking to someone in your office. Saying things like "thank you for calling" and "have a nice day", in addition to watching your tone of voice, will help you to represent your office in a compassionate and professional manner.
Record up to 10 voicemail greetings and select the one that you want callers to hear. Record a new greeting. When you use the Google Voice app, you can record a greeting up to 3 minutes long. If you use Safari to record the greeting, it can only be one minute long. If you don't record a new greeting, callers hear the default greeting.
These are just a few ideas to get the gears turning. These are simple examples, but don’t be afraid to show a little personality.
The basic rule of thumb is that callers should hear one of two things when they first connect with your voicemail — either an apology for not being able to answer the call or a “thank you” for having called. You can do both if you prefer, but keep it short and to the point.

Your voicemail doesn’t have to be monotonous or impersonal. What you need is something that is unique to you but works in a professional manner.
One of the rules you should remember is to speak a bit slowly and clearly so that your callers are able to understand more easily what is being said.
State your name clearly so the caller knows they have the right number. 3 of the messages I heard last month were missing his/her name.
The alternative is simple: Provide in your voice message a phone number and refer the caller to an assistant, a colleague, a cell number—any way of expediting their quest. Help your caller to reach someone who can, in your absence, be helpful and succeed in keeping the business. And remember to update your voicemail message when appropriate.
