I worked with a guy years ago who would update his voicemail greeting literally every time he left the office. So the bare minimum would be that heâd record a new message when he arrived in the office in the morning. Then, when leaving for lunch heâd record a new greeting listing the time he would be back in the office, then heâd record a new message when he got back from lunch, then a new one at the end of the day saying he would be back in the morning. Thatâs not even counting the times he was out of the office on work business. It was deranged, especially since he had the type of job where he would normally be in and out of the office often.
Think about a soon-to-be-ex-colleague that really could do with some extra enquiries forwarded their way (call it 'paying it forward').

However, when I email the backup person I also cc the original person. If the issue gets totally resolved, the original person is well aware. If the issue is not resolved, the original person can pick it up pretty easily.
Thanks for your email! Iâll be OOO from [date] to [date] and will not be accessing email during that time.

You are hereby informed that a large number of our company workers are going to take their days off due to extreme weather conditions prevailing in the city. Due to this, there would be much difficulty in coming and going so it is a mutual decision from the heads of our office to make it closed from 25-12-20XX to 02-01-20XX. This temporary closure will result in delayed answers to your queries, so these will be answered right after the opening of our office. All the delays are regretted.

It definitely sounds like something my boss would write and I laughed at it. In our work, everyone thinks that theyâre a special emergency all the time. Stopping to think âif I donât have this in the next two days what will the actual consequences beâ is a thing that should happen more but doesnât.
Most people donât give this a second thought, but you could potentially be putting your company at serious risk. In the wrong hands this information can open the door for phishing attacks and financial fraud.
