If youāre out for the day, I think you literally just need to say āIām not in the office today, but Iāll respond to your message as soon as Iām back.ā If people need an answer to something today, theyāre smart enough to figure out they need to ask somebody else.

This is so timely for me as I begin a 2 week vacation in 15 days (no Iām not counting days or anything). I have been agonizing over how much detail to share in my Out of office message as I will be completely unreachable during this time.
Itās also expected that if youāre in Wales you put the effort in to at least try and read Welsh, but tbh I can barely read English before 10am.
Iām on PTO (Holiday) from the 28.09 until the 02.10 working again on the 5th of October, due to this my response will be delayed.

I do think mine sometimes gets a little wordy because I generally have 2 to 3 people that I direct people to depending on need. But, I figure itās less hassle than only going through one person and getting shuffled around.
This is one reason I rarely give a contact person. My company is terrible at communication, and not only could you easily be sent on a OOO chain, you could also be emailing someone who is out who didnāt even use OOO.
Setting your out of office may be different depending on the email provider you use. But whether youāre on Outlook, Gmail, or another platform, it should be a relatively straightforward process.
Walk through your office and take a look at your electronics and other potential energy drains. Since you will not be in the office, there is no reason to pay for electricity that you are not using. Make sure that you handle your shutdown properly.
