Hey, there! Iâm out of the office this week, but my Twitter signal is always on. Seriously, Iâve got robotic wonder thumbs! (No, not really.) I never fail to tweet fascinating stories about how people can win big with their marketing efforts. So, until Iâm back at my desk, wonât you follow me [LINK]? Whether you follow me or not, Iâll get back to you as soon as I can upon returning to my desk on [DATE].
If this matter isnât time-sensitive, rest assured that Iâll respond when Iâm back from this break. But you can resend any messages that require my immediate attention with a subject line of âURGENT: [Original Subject].â Out of Office Template #6 For the Person Who Likes to Live on the Edge (of HR Protocol)

I wouldnât be offended or consider saying anything to anyone who included this in their out of office message, but even as someone who is in a religion that forbids use of electronics on most holidays, I still think this message is 1) TMI; 2) doesnât convey what it needs to convey unless you are explaining that you donât use electronics during holidays, in which case you can just include that you wonât be checking email without including the religious explanation; 3) would come across to me as inclusion of personal information I donât need, which would therefore strike an unprofessional tone, and I wouldnât understand why you felt the need to include that info. How about âIâm out of the office without access to internet or email until (date). If you need assistance before this date, please contactâŠâ Like I said, I think your colleagues are overreacting, but in general I would advise to leave all personal information out of your auto-reply â vacation, medical leave, religious observance, etc. â people do not need to know why you are out.
The holiday benefit is available to U.S. regular, full-time staff members. Staff members whose employment terms are for four months or less are not regular full-time staff members.
Thereâs nothing awful or offensive about this message, but itâs also not very good. Yes, it provides the courtesy of letting the sender nominally know that youâre going to be slower than usual to respond. Thatâs nice. The problem is in this bit: âmay be slow to respond to email.â Another popular variation: âmight be slower than usual to respond.â
An old boss had a pet peeve about this so I became very conscious of making sure that I listed out who to contact on what day⊠before the group email. So it looked something like this:
The holidays are a time for warm wishes and for expressing gratitude for a great year gone by. While holiday messages may not take a lot of time to write, they are a great way to show you care and bring people closer, whether the recipient is your employee, colleague, or boss.
So what makes a good automated response that will give you the reassurance you need to keep your work email under control so that you can truly enjoy your holiday?
If youâre going away on vacation, itâs very useful to set an automatic âout of officeâ reply for your emails. These automatic replies let people who email you know that you are not available to reply to their messages. Hereâs how to set up an automatic out of office reply in the Microsoft Outlook desktop app and the web version.
