āGreetings. Iām away on holidays for a week and unable to respond to your call/message. I will return to the office on Jan. 20 and respond to you at the earliest. Hope to talk to you soon.ā
Iām on vacation until July 18th. If you need to reach me, hereās what youāll need to do: First, travel to my homeland of Florida. Climb to the highest peak of the tallest mountain. Find a rare flower (no specifics, of course... Itād be cheating). Put the flower back, because as the old hiking rule goes, āLeave everything as you found it.ā

If youāre out for several days, then sure, say when youāll be back and leave info for who to contact in the meantime.
When we set an out-of-office, we donāt immediately think of lead generation. However, it is a good opportunity to this end. For instance, you could encourage attendance for a webinar or future event, suggest sign-ups for online courses, give links to book downloads, or point recipients in the direction of any other product or service you are pushing. As well as informing the recipient of your unavailability, you are encouraging them to act.
āHappy Holidaysā is typically used when you aren't really sure what holiday someone celebrates. In that instance you are replacing Christmas or Hanakkuh with the word Holiday making it a proper noun, which means it should be capitalized.

The director who received that in response to an all staff communication? Not so much. Coworker got a talking to by his manager when he got back to the UK.
But perhaps we have it all wrong, and are simply enslaving ourselves further to technology by toiling over OOOs that are personality-packed, marketing-friendly perfection. Maybe we need to be altogether more standoffish if we want to make our OOOs really work for us? NYU Professor Meredith Broussard, whoās the author of Artificial Unintelligence: How Computers Misunderstand the World, takes the inspiration for her OOO from US writer, poet and childrenās author E.B. White, who once turned down an invitation from President Eisenhower with the words āI must decline, for secret reasonsā.
