Remove any personal details in that message, including personal cell phone numbers or an alternate email where you can temporarily be reached.

You can set up your Auto Attendant to greet callers with a message before forwarding the call to a number outside of your 8x8 system. Log in to 8x8 Admin Console. Click Auto Attendants. I will always assume it is an inability to interact in an adult fashion with the world of technology. There is no good reason to avoid voicemails so aggressively – those that are doing so should probably be seeking therapy to overcome their issues with technology and/or the human voice. A lot of us process text faster and more accurately than speech, especially poor-audio-quality speech recorded by someone who didn’t bother to leave all the relevant information. Most voice mails are bad.
My favorite thing is setting my OOO to only run for a specific amount of time. I will absolutely forget to turn it off if I have to do it manually, but we can just set a date/time range for it to start/stop. So I usually start it around 4 pm the day before and end it at 7 or 8pm the night before I return.
