The kicker was when she left we teased apart all of what she had been doing and it amounted to about 10 hours a week worth of work (and she was putting in OT constantly lol)
Just say you’re away from your desk! Or if you’re out for more than a day, just say you’re “away” until XYZ date.
You might receive multiple emails from coworkers and clients if you’re not specific about your absence dates, which will clog your inbox and make it hard for you to remain productive when you get back.
It was very inefficient but I was making $3 above minimum wage and it was air conditioned. So no argument from me. They took me back for the winter break and would have had me every other summer except I did internships, so I guess I didn’t do too badly.
I would very much like to meet him, and I don’t know if that proves or challenges his point…
Protocol for when you should use an out-of-office message will vary by job and industry, but generally, you should set an OOO message when you’ll be out for two or more days.
Seems like a big task, right? Well…wrong. You don’t need to stop by everyone in the office’s desks (if you’re even working in an office these days!) or send out an email to each and every client or lead. The easiest way to do this is by simply changing your voicemail greeting and adding an out-of-office email responder to your email client.

Short for automatic reply, auto messages are texts sent without the need for manual intervention. They’re also almost always in response to a triggering action. General auto reply: A pre-written response like an out-of-office message that can be turned on and off.Specific auto reply: This kind of message is only sent when a particular action is taken. For example, when a text-to-join keyword is texted to your number. These are also sometimes referred to as triggers.

Agreed. Every time you are in a meeting is overkill. For some people they are never not in meetings.
