I have a message saying I don’t listen to voice mail, because I only see that a message has been left after several days. Click Edit (pencil icon) to the right of the Auto Attendant you wish to edit. Go to the Call Handling Menus section and select the Holiday Open Hours Menu or Holiday Closed Hours Menu. Note: You need to select a Site for your Auto Attendant before you can view the Call Handling Menus. Select Play Audio. Click Select File. Select Call a phone number to record. Enter the Name and the Phone Number or Extension you wish to record your initial greeting on. Click Call Now and follow the instructions. Click Save.

I dunno – I think it says more about the writer than the culture. I worked in tech where there were always a handful of people who would do stuff like this, but most people would keep it basic. I just think some people love putting funky or gimmicky twists on rote stuff.

An automatic response should include the date when you left, a reason (vacation, sick leave, a conference, etc) and, if possible, the date when you plan to come back. Thank your client for their email, promise to get back to it as soon as possible and apologize for the inconvenience. Also, it should be obvious that you’re out of office from the first sentence.
