Because of this, typical out-of-office replies will often split the difference between our hopes and fears and say something like: “I’m out of the office and can be reached but if you need assistance right away, please contact x person.”
Or, announcing a trip on social media could result in email or social media offers too good to be true. Hey there! I’m on holiday right now. I’ll try to reply to your message ASAP. Talk to you later!

I remember a phone tree that at the end of the normal boring options there was “To hear a duck press 8”
[Your Name] said he/she will be back on [date]. I’m sure he/she will respond to your message as soon as he/she’s back. But if your concern is urgent, please send an email to [contact name] at [contact email]. He/She is not an autoresponder, I promise. He/She will take care of your needs. Good luck when you return next year. You will have plenty of emails to respond to! But for the meantime, be merry and have fun during the ho-ho-holidays!
