Calling your retrieval number — instead of your home phone number — is a faster way to listen to your messages remotely. You will be prompted immediately to enter your PIN and don't have to wait for your greeting to start.

Whether you can record your own greeting (also known as “voicemail outgoing message”) depends on your carrier and whether they have their own mechanism in place, or integrate neatly with the iPhone’s native functionality.

7. Check for and install a Carrier Settings update. Open Settings → General → About → If there is an update, you will see a pop-up. → Tap Update.
