Accessing voicemail on an Android phone can be achieved by hitting and holding down the 1 key on the number pad until the system dials your 10-digit phone number, as seen in the screenshot.
At present, you have to record your greeting by recording directly into the iPhone microphone -- the results of which are average, of course.

turning off wi-fi didn't do it... So I deleted voicemails, then I cleared all. I still could not record a new greeting, so I turned the phone off, then on again, and that worked--I still had wi-fi on. My voicemail doesn’t tell me the number, date or time the caller made the call. Can it be set up to do these things?
The service also recommends stating your name, apologizing for missing the call and that you will call them back. If possible include a time frame for a return call. Don’t ramble or include un-needed information.
For those who prefer not to use the Phone app, you can set up voicemail by selecting and holding the 1 button on your keyboard.
While it is understandable that not everyone likes to use the default voicemail greeting messages on their devices, there is a simple and quick way to alter the voicemail greeting on the Samsung S20 from any carrier (including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Spring, and others).
Alright let me try to clear this problem as much as I can. From the parent carrier, we have a limitation or you can say a requirement that all numbers should have the Voicemail set up. So what we do for those customers who don’t want it, we disable it from our side but again the numbers keep syncing from the parent carrier’s network from time to time (roughly once a quarter). When the numbers get synced, voicemail automatically gets enabled. To some people, this is alright but sometimes it becomes inconvenience for the customers to call us again to disable it.

Along with having my greeting screen frozen I was also not receiving any indication that a call was coming in...no ring, no vibrate, no visual indication on the phone at all. All calls were going directly to voicemail and the greeting was some funky message...maybe it was the default although custom was checkmarked. I also tried resetting, turning off WiFi, checking Do Not Disturb.
