Before we dive into the troubleshooting steps, make sure that you have Visual Voicemail set up on your iPhone. Open the Phone app on your iPhone and tap Voicemail in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. If you see “To retrieve a voicemail first set a password and greeting” on the screen as well as a button that says Set Up Now, then Visual Voicemail has not been set up on your iPhone.
I have tried all of the suggestions above and still can't save a custom voicemail greeting. seems like such a simple task, I can't believe Apple hasn't fixed this bug. When I record my new voice message I do not have the stop option button and it keeps the existing voice message!! I have an iphone5 and I need to change my voicemail message!! Please help

If you are a new customer and have not established a voicemail box, you will be prompted to choose a password and greeting. Must be from 4 to 10 digits long. Can’t be a single digit repeated (like 1111). Can’t be an ascending or descending sequence (like 1234 or 7654). Can’t be your phone number or part of it. Can’t be 7890, 2580 or 1210. Dial *98 from your U-verse home phone, dial your home phone number from another phone, or access your voicemail messages online from the Voicemail Settings tab. Press the * key when you hear your greeting. Enter your PIN. Press 4 and follow the prompts.
