By having the alternate greeting pre-recorded and assigned, you can change your voicemail greeting on the fly. If you have an Android phone, you might be able to disable voicemail by adjusting your call-forwarding settings. One of the best and quick fix to this issue is to turn off Wi-Fi for once and switch to Cellular data connection and then try to change the default greeting to custom on iPhone.
