2. Setting Up an AT&T Voicemail by Calling: Open your iPhone's Phone app. It's the white phone icon on a green background on the Home screen. Tap "Voicemail".

Call your iPhone from another phone and try to leave yourself a voicemail. Go to the keypad and press and hold the number 1, or press the Call Voicemail button. This dials voicemail. Check if you have any missed messages. On the Voicemail screen, tap Greeting. Then change your greeting to either custom or default.
You could also record a custom greeting in a visual voicemail app, if you have one installed.
When you receive a voicemail, a notification will alert you on Skype for Business apps, desktop phone, and email app. If the caller hangs-up before leaving a message, you will receive a Missed-Call Notification email with the caller information (if it was not blocked). Depending on the users settings for Call Answering Rules Callers can hear a greeting, record a message (up to 5 minutes), and/or choose to be transferred to the target defined by the user. 4. Sprint Wireless: Press and hold the “1” button on the dialer screen of your Sprint phone. This command automatically dials into Sprint’s voicemail system.
Enter a name for the new greeting and then tap Save. Change your greeting. To use a greeting that you've already recorded or switch back to the default greeting: On your iPhone or iPad, open the Voice app . At the top left, tap Menu Settings. In the Voicemail section, tap Voicemail greeting.

In your Phone app, navigate to the number pad. Pressing and holding the 1 key will dial you into your Voicemail's main menu instantly. You can also call your own number or select Voicemail from the list of options under the three-dot menu in the app. If this is your first foray into the matter, the friendly voice on the other end will guide you
I have the same problem. I’ve also worked with the support line (via the chat option), and have been unsuccessful at getting it set up or enabled. “The voicemail box number is invalid…”, yet, if I call my number, I can leave a voicemail, but have no way to go in and retrieve it.

In the Main Menu, press 4 for Personal Options. Press 3 to Change Greetings. Follow the voice prompts to record a personal greeting.
I have tried all of the suggestions above and still can't save a custom voicemail greeting. seems like such a simple task, I can't believe Apple hasn't fixed this bug. You can change your voicemail password by calling (800)-331-0500 from your iPhone. You’ll reach AT&T’s automated customer service menu which will ask for your phone number and billing zip code. A few seconds later, the message “Password Incorrect – Enter Voicemail Password” will appear on the display of your iPhone. Enter the last seven digits of your cellphone number to change your voicemail password. I strongly recommend that you read AT&T’s support article on changing your voicemail password before attempting to do so.
To set up your voicemail, press #55 or *68 from your home phone or call the retrieval number you received with your welcome letter. Voice prompts will guide you through the rest of the steps.
