This is not an answering machine–this is a telepathic thought-recording device. After the tone, think about your name, your reason for calling, and a number where I can reach you, and I’ll think about returning your call.
Sound benign and businesslike? That's the whole idea. As Karyn-Ruth explains it, "Bill collectors, the IRS, sales personnel, obscene callers and other obnoxious people think they have reached a business, and therefore the wrong number, and hang up."
.
Hey, who’s this? I’d actually pick up, but my phone is staring at me. OMG! I just saw it wink!
To best assist your callers and effectively route their calls, you will need to classify your call types.
Business Intro – quick intro announcement heard by the caller before they speak with a business representative. Usually quite short and welcoming, introducing the business to the caller.
So long as phones can ring and eyes can see, leave a message, and I’ll get back to thee.
Hi, this is [Name]. I’m not currently available at the moment, but I look forward to talking with you. Please leave your contact information, along with a short message, and I’ll make certain to return your call.
Voice Prompts – usually combined with a Business Intro announcement, used for Auto Attendant and IVR prompts to provide menu options and assist in telephone navigation.
Random facts could include their favorite movie, vacation spot, candy, or television show. Regardless of what you choose, it will surprise your caller and more than likely make them leave a message if they were considering hanging up.
Are you a "Gone With the Wind" fan? Then you'll want to copy this one, which Anne S. Kight has been using on her home machine for years. In the background, you hear the swelling overture from GWTW. After a few seconds, a gently accented southern voice says: "As God is my witness, I simply cannot come to the phone right now. So please leave a message, and I'll call you back -- tomorrow. After all, tomorrow is another day!"

Hi, thanks for calling the residence of the Jennings Family. As you can tell, no one’s home to answer your call, but just leave your name, number and message and we’ll get back as soon as we can. Thanks
Doing this helps you understand what the prospects are looking for and what they are expecting from you which will in turn help you to cater to them better.
-Now I lay me down to sleep; Leave a message at the beep. If I should die before I wake, remember to erase the tape.
